Established in 1922 as an Orthodox synagogue by early Jewish farmers and entrepreneurs, the Kerhonkson Synagogue is now a small egalitarian community whose members draw from a variety of Jewish backgrounds. We are blessed to have Sally Shore Wittenberg as our religious leader.
Our services are creative and musical, yet reflective of tradition. We have approximately 70 families, many of whom are second generation members. Our community is warm and friendly, welcoming to all who enter.
The Shabbat kiddush is a feast!
The Kopp Community Center hosts an active senior group, Rabbi Sally's classes and holiday celebrations for Chanukkah, Purim, and more. We also maintain a cemetery for our members and their families.
Our beautiful sanctuary, included on the National Register of Historic Places, is recognized for its architecture and is a window into 100 years of Jewish life in the farming communities in the area.
Did you know? The building of our synagogue is the culminating event in the book Jew Boy in Goy Town and our sanctuary served as a location in the movie
Dovid Meyer.

Kerhonkson Synagogue's mission is to be a place of spiritual homecoming. We provide a space of warmth and welcoming for all those seeking to enrich their lives Jewishly: through contact with the Jewish community, engagement with Torah, acts of chesed (lovingkindness) and prayer of the heart as experienced through words, song, and contemplation.
